Website help for West Sussex trades, coast to Downs

Before you pay for more leads or advertising, find out whether the website you already own could be doing more.

I help builders, roofers, plumbers, electricians, landscapers and other trades across West Sussex get more from the website they already have. It's all done remotely, so there's nothing to arrange.

Plenty of trade websites look fine but nobody can say where the enquiries come from, or what the monthly fee is paying for.

I'll check how Google, Bing and AI tools see your website and tell you the 2–3 things I'd look at first.

How people in West Sussex look for a trade

Coast, Downs and Gatwick towns: three very different places in one county.

  • roofer Worthing
  • plumber Shoreham
  • builder Chichester
  • electrician Horsham

Real searches look like these. Your website needs to give Google and AI tools something to match them to.

The coast searches differently

Worthing, Littlehampton, Bognor Regis and Shoreham are full of people searching for a specific job in a specific town: “roofer Worthing”, “plumber Shoreham”. A website that only says “Sussex” gives those searches nothing to match.

The South Downs changes the job

Inside the South Downs National Park, planning goes through the National Park Authority, and work on older flint and brick properties is its own specialism. If that's work you want, say so plainly. The people who need it search for it.

Crawley, Horsham and Mid Sussex

The north of the county is commuter country: Crawley, Horsham, Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, East Grinstead. Busy households who search on a phone, compare a few trades and pick whoever looks clearest.

Brighton is next door

Brighton and Hove isn't in West Sussex, but plenty of trades from Shoreham and Worthing work there. If you do, your website should name it. Otherwise people there may never find you.

A trade business I built from nothing

It relied on word of mouth and had no real online presence. I built all of it myself: the website, the service and area pages, a large library of helpful guides, the technical setup and the routes to an enquiry.

It now gets consistent enquiries without paying for advertising.

What I look at for West Sussex trades

Who owns your website

Whether the domain, hosting and logins are in your name, or tied to a designer or a monthly package you can’t leave.

What the monthly fee covers

If you pay every month for hosting or “maintenance”, whether anything is actually being done, and whether it’s a fair price.

Where enquiries come from

Whether calls and form messages from the website are tracked, so you know if it’s bringing in work at all.

Readable by AI tools

Whether ChatGPT, Copilot and Google’s AI answers can read your pages and get your services and areas right.

Area pages from the coast to the Downs

Clear pages or sections for the towns you want work in, so a search in Chichester or Horsham has something to match.

Contact that works on a phone

Whether calling or asking for a quote takes one tap, and whether messages actually reach you.

You probably don't need a new website

Most of what holds a website back can be fixed on the one you have. I'll tell you the 2–3 things that matter most. If they're worth fixing, I'll say what it would cost. You decide.

Website Clarity is just me, so I only take on a couple of implementation projects at a time.

Check your website

If you're not sure whether your website is actually helping bring in work, I'll take a look.

This isn't an instant automated score. I'll run the checks, review what comes back and send you the 2–3 things I'd tackle first. Usually within 2–3 working days.

Questions from West Sussex trades

I pay my web designer every month. Is that normal?

It can be, if it covers hosting, updates and someone fixing things when they break. But some fees cover very little.

The free check looks at what your website actually needs, so you can ask the right questions about what you pay.

How do I know if my website is bringing in any work?

Often you can't, because nothing is tracking it. Calls and form messages can be measured, so you can see which ones come from the website.

If yours isn't tracked, I'll tell you.

I work on the coast and inland. Should my website say both?

Yes, if you want work from both. Name the towns you actually cover, and give the main ones a page or section of their own.

It helps the right customers find you, and stops enquiries from places you don't go.

Can you look at my website if someone else built it?

Yes. I don't need a login or any access. I look at your website the way Google, Bing and AI tools do, from the outside.

You get the findings. It's up to you whether you, your designer or I fix them.
